A long-established, no-frills gyoza specialist with a communal counter, serving outstanding dumplings at remarkably low prices.
Harajuku Gyozarou has been a fixture of the Harajuku dining scene since the early 2000s, drawing locals and tourists alike with its straightforward menu of freshly pan-fried gyoza and simple sides. The restaurant's no-frills approach is part of its charm: there is just one large U-shaped communal counter where diners sit side by side, and the owner often chats with regulars as orders are prepared. The gyoza themselves are the star, crispy on the base and juicy within, served in batches of six or twelve alongside rice, bean sprouts, and other modest accompaniments. Prices are remarkably low for the area, which goes some way to explaining the perpetual queue that forms outside at lunch and dinner time.
Found just off Cat Street at Jingumae 6-2-4, the restaurant is about a four-minute walk from Meiji-Jingumae Station. The queue moves quickly thanks to the efficient counter-service format, and takeaway is also available. Opening hours are 11:30 to 22:30, making it a reliable option for a late bite after a day exploring Harajuku.
