Hatsumode at Meiji Jingu is 1–3 January 2027. The shrine is the country’s busiest for the first visit of the year. The usual published crowd is about three million over three days. The 2027 (Reiwa 9) hours page was not up on 16 October 2026. The pattern from recent years, including the horse-year 2026 page, is overnight from 31 December into 1 January, close 18:30 on the 1st, then 06:40–18:00 on 2 and 3 January.
Queues are worst 22:00–03:00 and after 10:00 on the three days. Early 1 January before 06:00, or 2–3 January, is the less brutal window. Dress for standing. Omamori and hamaya desks are in the precincts. Inner Garden (Gyoen) is a separate ¥500 ticket and follows winter last-entry 16:00. It is not the hatsumode line.
Enter from JR Harajuku or Meiji-jingumae. Takeshita is the wrong approach if you only want the shrine. Ginkgo at Meiji Jingu Gaien is Minato, a different calendar, a different walk. This page is the forest next to Yoyogi Park.
